Z55 pigtail adapter set (universal adapter)
2 pigtails for one rear axle, with waterproof heat-shrink crimp connectors. For our Z55 kit on 2005-2014 trucks and SUVs and our 1997-2012 car kit.
The M&P USA Z55 pigtail adapter set (also called our universal adapter set) converts a non-standard 2-pin shock connector to the standard GM large 2-pin connector, so our Z55 bypass kit and 1997-2012 strut bypass kit plug in. Each Z55 pigtail adapter set includes 2 pigtails, enough for one rear axle, plus waterproof heat-shrink crimp connectors.
The most common use is the rear air-ride shocks on 2005-2014 Z55 trucks and SUVs (Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon), where the rear 2-pin connector is a different style than the front. Made in the USA and backed by our lifetime warranty.

- Ordering two Z55 kits or the Z55 2-axle kit? The pigtails are included free, so skip this set.
- It adapts the connector only. It doesn’t bypass anything by itself, and installing it means cutting and splicing the rear wires.

- Your 1997-2012 GM car’s shock connector doesn’t match the connector on our 1997-2012 strut bypass kit (for example, some Buick LaCrosse and early Cadillac Seville models).

- You’re ordering two Z55 kits or our Z55 2-axle kit: the pigtails are included free.
- Your front connectors match our kit: the front on Z55 trucks and SUVs plugs straight in.
- You have a 2015 or newer SUV or a 2013 or newer car: these don’t fit the Z95, 2021-2023, or 2013-2018 strut kits.

How to install the Z55 pigtail adapter set
- 1Cut off the factory connector. With the vehicle off and safely raised, unplug the rear shock connector and cut it off, leaving as much wire as possible on the vehicle side.
- 2Strip the wires. Strip a short length of insulation from the vehicle’s two wires and the pigtail’s two wires.
- 3Crimp. Join each pigtail wire to a vehicle wire with the included heat-shrink crimp connectors and crimp them firmly.
- 4Seal. Heat each connector until it shrinks tight and seals.
- 5Plug in the simulator. Plug our shock simulator into the pigtail’s GM 2-pin connector until it clicks, then secure it away from heat sources.

Do I need the Z55 pigtail adapter set?
Usually only for the rear of 2005-2014 Z55 trucks and SUVs with rear air ride, where the rear 2-pin connector differs from the front, or for 1997-2012 cars whose connector doesn’t match our strut kit. Send us your year, make, and model if you’re not sure.
Are the pigtails included with the Z55 kit?
Yes, when you order two Z55 kits (front and rear), we include the pigtails free. They also come free in our Z55 2-axle kit. Order the Z55 pigtail adapter set separately only if you’re converting the rear axle with a single kit.
Will these work with my Z95, 2021-2023, or 2013-2018 kit?
No. The Z55 pigtail adapter set is only for Z55-era connectors, used with our Z55 kit and 1997-2012 strut bypass kit.
Do I have to cut wires?
Yes. You cut off the factory connector and crimp the pigtail onto the vehicle’s wires with the included waterproof heat-shrink crimp connectors. You’ll need a wire stripper, crimping tool, and heat gun.
Can I use these alone to bypass my shocks?
No. The pigtails only adapt the connector. You still need our Z55 kit or 1997-2012 strut bypass kit.
How many pigtails come in a set?
Two, enough for one axle (both rear shocks).
