Which MagneRide bypass kit do I need?
Find the right GM MagneRide, AutoRide, or electronic suspension bypass kit by year, make, and model, plus BMW and Mercedes fiber optic loops.
Written by M&P USA, the veteran-owned company that designs, builds, and supports these kits in the USA.
The right MagneRide bypass kit depends on three things: whether your vehicle is a truck, SUV, or car, its model year, and on some 2009-2014 trucks and SUVs, the suspension code in your glove box. Use the tool below, or the fitment tables, to find your exact kit.
Find my kit
Choose your year, make, and model.
The short answer
- Trucks and SUVs need shock simulators and ride height simulators, so they take a complete kit.
- Cars need only shock simulators, so they take a strut bypass kit.
- The model year decides the kit, and on 2009-2014 trucks and SUVs, so does the code on the glove box label.
Three questions that decide your kit

- Truck or SUV, or a car? Trucks and SUVs (Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Sierra Denali) need a complete kit with ride height simulators. Cars (Corvette, Camaro, CTS, ATS, XTS, STS, DTS, XLR, SS, Lucerne, LaCrosse) need a strut bypass kit.
- What year is it? Trucks and SUVs: 2005-2012 take the Z55 kit, 2015-2020 the Z95 kit, and 2021-2023 our 2021-2023 kit (sold as Z45). Cars: 1997-2012 or 2013 and newer.
- 2009-2014 truck or SUV? GM used both Z55 and Z95 in those years. Check the Service Parts Identification label in your glove box: Z55 takes the Z55 kit, Z95 takes the Z95 kit. Or send us your VIN.
Before you buy parts, enter your VIN in the NHTSA recall lookup to check for open safety recalls; recall repairs are free at a dealer.
Then pick one kit per axle, or a 2-axle kit for all four corners.
Z55 rear pigtails
2005-2012 Z55 trucks and SUVs: the rear 2-pin shock connectors are a different style from the front, so the kit plugs straight in at the front but needs our Z55 pigtail adapter set spliced in at the rear. The pigtails come free with two Z55 kits or the Z55 2-axle kit. More in our Z55 guide.
GM trucks and SUVs
| Years | Vehicle | System | Kit you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2005-2012 | Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT (label shows Z55) | Z55 | Z55 MagneRide bypass kit (one axle; rear also needs pigtails) or Z55 2-axle kit (both axles, rear pigtails free) |
| 2005-2012 | Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban | Z55 | Z55 MagneRide bypass kit (rear also needs pigtails) or Z55 2-axle kit |
| 2005-2012 | GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali, Sierra Denali | Z55 | Z55 MagneRide bypass kit (rear also needs pigtails) or Z55 2-axle kit |
| 2009-2012 | Cadillac Escalade, ESV, EXT with a Z95 label | Z95 | Z95 MagneRide bypass kit or Z95 2-axle kit |
| 2013-2014 | Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon | Z55 or Z95 | Check the glove box code: Z55 = Z55 kit, Z95 = Z95 MagneRide bypass kit |

| 2015-2020 | Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ, Suburban LTZ and Premier | Z95 | Z95 kit or Z95 2-axle kit |
| 2015-2020 | GMC Yukon Denali, Yukon Denali XL | Z95 | Z95 kit or Z95 2-axle kit |
| 2015-2018 | GMC Sierra 1500 Denali | Z95 | Z95 kit or Z95 2-axle kit |
| 2021-2023 | Cadillac Escalade (MagneRide, no Air Ride) | Z95 label | 2021-2023 (Z45) kit (one axle) or 2021-2023 (Z45) 2-axle kit (both axles) |
| 2021-2023 | Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban (MagneRide, no Air Ride) | Z95 label | Z45 kit or Z45 2-axle kit |
| 2021-2023 | GMC Yukon Denali, Yukon Denali XL (MagneRide, no Air Ride) | Z95 label | Z45 kit or Z45 2-axle kit |
Not compatible: 2021-2023 SUVs with Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, and 2019-2023 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Denali pickups (Adaptive Ride Control). 2021-2023 SUVs with MagneRide show Z95 on the glove box label, so pick by model year. Guides: Z55, Z95, 2021-2023.
Customer-reported: our Z55 parts have also been used on the Chevrolet Avalanche, and our Z95 kit on 2013-2014 Escalades and the 2020 Tahoe RST. Contact us to confirm any vehicle not listed.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my truck has Z55 or Z95?
Open the glove box and find the Service Parts Identification label, a sticker covered in 3-character codes. Look for Z55 or Z95. GM used both in 2013 and 2014, so the year alone won’t tell you. Can’t find it? Send us your VIN and we’ll tell you which kit fits.
Do I need one kit or two?
Each single kit covers one axle (front or rear). To convert all four corners, order two single kits or one 2-axle kit, which includes the same parts at a lower price.
Do I need ride height simulators?
GM trucks and SUVs with MagneRide or AutoRide monitor ride height sensors along with the shocks, so they need ride height simulators. Our truck and SUV kits include them. Cars at stock ride height do not need them.
Can I use a car strut kit on my truck or SUV?
No. Car kits include only shock simulators. Trucks and SUVs also need ride height simulators, so a car kit alone is not a proper long-term solution on a truck or SUV.
My 2021-2023 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, or Escalade label says Z95. Which kit do I need?
Our 2021-2023 kit (sold as the Z45 kit). GM uses the code Z95 for MagneRide on every generation, so for these SUVs choose by model year: 2015-2020 takes the Z95 kit and 2021-2023 takes the 2021-2023 kit, because the connectors are different.
Does the 2021-2023 kit fit vehicles with Air Ride (F47)?
No. It fits 2021-2023 SUVs with MagneRide and conventional springs. Vehicles with Air Ride Adaptive Suspension (glove box code F47) are not covered.
Will the 2021-2023 (Z45) kit fit my 2019-2023 Silverado or Sierra Denali?
No. Those pickups use Adaptive Ride Control, a different system. Our 2021-2023 kit fits 2021-2023 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon Denali and Denali XL with MagneRide.
Why doesn’t the Z55 kit plug in at the rear of my truck?
On 2005-2012 Z55 trucks and SUVs, the rear 2-pin shock connectors are a different style than the front. Splice our Z55 pigtail adapter set onto the rear wires and the simulators plug right in. The pigtails come free with two Z55 kits or the Z55 2-axle kit.
Can I convert only the front (or only the rear)?
Yes. Each single kit covers one axle, so you can replace just the front or just the rear shocks. The axle you leave alone keeps working as it did from the factory.
What about rear air ride or towing?
If you tow, many owners keep the rear air shocks and convert only the front. If you replace the rear with non-air shocks: on 2015-2020 Z95 trucks and SUVs, the air lines need to be connected to each other; on 2005-2012 Z55 trucks and SUVs, you can generally pull the fuse or the relay for the leveling compressor once the bypass is installed, leaving the compressor itself plugged in. Contact us if you want help.
Do these kits fit Ford or other brands?
No. Our MagneRide bypass kits fit GM vehicles only (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC).
What is the best MagneRide bypass kit?
Look for plug-and-play connectors that match your factory plugs (no cutting or crimping), sealed weatherproof connections, ride height simulators for trucks and SUVs, and a warranty that covers the parts mounted under the vehicle. M&P USA kits work with any standard shocks or coilovers, plug in at each corner with nothing to program, are made in the USA by a veteran-owned business, and are backed by a lifetime warranty on every part.
